With spring getting closer, many homeowners have turned to their yards for some therapeutic work. While there is no denying that there are some great benefits from working outside, there are some things that you want to watch out for to ensure that you aren’t putting yourself at risk for serious exposure. What we are talking about is plants of the Toxicodendron genus that can cause a serious rash and other health issues. These plants are better known as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. If you have ever experienced exposure to these plants, you are probably aware of how painful and irritating it is.

The problem is that when you are exposed to the oil these plants generate, you usually end up spreading it to other parts of your body. This is why it is wise to ensure that your arms and legs are well covered when working in an area where these plants can be found.

The oil is dangerous even after the plant is dead, and you should never burn these plants since the smoke can have serious side effects on those that inhale it.
