Have you ever stopped to think about what you flush down the toilet? Many of us have habits of flushing things down the toilet without thinking about what the consequences could be. It seems like your toilet should be able to handle a lot, but in reality, it is only meant for waste and toilet paper, which is designed to break apart. Some common items that have been flushed down toilets for one reason or another are diapers, dental floss, q-tips, cooking grease and cat litter. For each of these item, there is a reason why they shouldn’t be flushed. They will cause clogs and cause trouble for you that might require the assistance of a plumber.
The same goes for chemicals. It’s easy to think that the chemicals will be diluted by the water and be harmless, but if you have a septic system, you could kill the beneficial bacteria that work inside of your septic tank.
