Any part of your home that is made out of wood is at risk of attack! There are many insects that are classified as WDI (Wood Destroying Insects) and out of those, termites are probably the best known and the most destructive that homeowners have to deal with. Termites can live inside of your walls for quite some time until their work becomes obvious, but at that point, it is going to be too late. This is why it is important for you as a homeowner to be aware of telltale signs that you can be on the lookout for.
The springtime is a good time to keep an eye out for swarming termites. They are attracted to lights, so you might see them around your outside lighting. This usually means that there is a large colony nearby, hopefully not inside of your home.
These termites will also drop their wings, so if you see them on your windowsills or around the building, you should contact an exterminator to take care of the problem.
Tapping on wooden features around your home could reveal signs of an infestation as well since there would be sawdust falling out of there where they have dug their way in.
